PRESS: Wargaming shows World of Tanks ads at US Super Bowl match

MOSCOW, Feb 6 (PRIME) -- Advertisements of popular online game World of Tanks of Minsk-based Wargaming have been broadcast during a break in the Super Bowl match of the U.S.’ National Football League (NFL) on February 5, business daily Vedomosti reported Monday citing Wargaming’s Global Marketing and PR Director Juuso Myllyrinne.

U.S. online edition Ad Age said two15-second spots were shown within the break.

The deal cost Wargaming almost half of the standard price. Tariffs of such an advertisement in open sources are said to be at some U.S. $6 million, Myllyrinne said, adding that Wargaming got an interesting offer with a discount at the very last moment and agreed.

The Super Bowl is one of the most spectacular events in the U.S. with an audience equal to the one of the Olympics’. Researcher Nielsen counted that the 2016 match was watched by more than 111.9 million people.

Founded in 1998 by Belarusian Viktor Kisly, Wargaming released the World of Tanks in 2009 and its development consumed some U.S. $10 million. The game is now the company’s hit with over 110 million players all over the globe, including 40 million registrations in Russia and the CIS.

According to Superdata’s analysts, the World of Tanks is the sixth global most popular game as of the end of 2016. Its revenue in 2015 could be over $590 million. Bloomberg estimated Wargaming in early 2016 at $1.5 billion, and Kisly was named the first U.S. dollar billionaire in Belarus with the fortune of $1 billion.
